Millersville, Maryland — J29 Inc., a healthcare management consulting company, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Shawn Deane as our General Counsel & Vice President of Claims Solutions. As of November 1st, Shawn will begin playing a pivotal role on J29’s executive team in leading J29’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge, compliance-driven services and solutions to our commercial clients involved in the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) Act.
With 15 years of relevant experience working with and alongside stakeholders in the Medicare Set-Aside (MSA) and MSP industry, Shawn brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team. He has a proven track record of successfully managing complex MSP professional services teams at one of the nation’s largest MSP compliance vendors, including MSA preparation and submission teams and leading its conditional payment department handling thousands of workers’ compensation, liability and no-fault conditional payment claims with the Commercial Repayment Center (CRC) and Benefits Coordination & Recovery Center (BCRC). He also has extensive experience advising Responsible Reporting Entities on their obligations around Sec. 111 reporting requirements. Most recently, Shawn served as general counsel and executive team member at the nation’s largest professional administrator of MSAs.
He has extensive involvement in the MSP industry, having served as board member and past president of the National Medicare Secondary Payer Network (MSPN) and currently serves as faculty for the Certified Medicare Secondary Payer Professional (CMSP) Program. In the workers’ compensation industry, Shawn currently sits on the Board of Directors for Kids’ Chance of Massachusetts and is a proud ambassador for the Kind Souls Foundation. He’s also an adjunct professor of law at New England Law Boston.

Shawn joins J29 at a time when the company has seen continued success in supporting the analysis and review of Medicare claims, disputes, appeals, and cases. Most recently within the last nine months, J29 has won three prime contracts supporting future treatment cost allocation, secondary payer bill analysis, medical injury compensation determination, and audit accuracy for three different agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). As a broader focused Medicare claim and case analysis company, J29 has processed and made decisions on over 200,000 claims on behalf of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Specific to the MSP Act, Shawn will join J29 that brings corporate experience of reviewing over 14,000 MSA’s, while maintaining over a 98% quality assurance rating and 100% timeliness scores. J29’s MSA Certified Consultants (MSCC) have spent a cumulative of over 10 years supporting the MSA submission community followed by the Workers Compensation Review Contractor (WCRC) in reviewing MSA’s.
